About Wellness Counselling

Wellness Counselling provides an on online, office- and community-based counselling service. The flexibility of these settings allows the client to find their most stress-free environment to start the counselling journey and personal development.

We provide a support service for individuals 16 years and older, affected by personal crisis and life changing events, but also for individuals in need of guidance and motivational support to make behavioural and lifestyle changes.

The counselling method is mainly based on Solution Focused and Motivational Therapy, with some overlap of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

What is counselling?

Counselling is a form of ‘talk therapy’. It is a process where one or more individuals meet with a trained professional counsellor to talk about issues and problems that they are facing in their lives and provide you with the opportunity to reassess or set new goals in your life and help you to gain clarity and direction.

Counselling can provide people with the opportunity to share their views, be heard and gain new perspectives on their situation and experiences.

Professional counselling is confidential and non-judgmental.

A professional counsellor is trained and registered, and will provide you with a genuine, caring and empathic response to your problems. A trained counsellor will have tools and techniques that are evidence based. They can use these tools to support you or help you to move through the difficult, problem, feelings, behaviours, thoughts or situation that are you experiencing.

What is a Specialist Wellness Counsellor?

According to ASCHP a Specialist Wellness Counsellor serves to enhance the total wellbeing of their clients by making use of a systems approach to counselling – working towards achieving wholeness within the integrative unity of the body, mind and spirit.

Specialist Wellness Counsellors are required to refer clients to medical and psychological professionals if they identify needs that require specialized intervention such as mood, personality and anxiety disorders and health related problems that require medical attention. (www.aschp.net)

Meet the Counsellor

My name is Karin Selepeng-Blomgren and I grew up in Sweden. I consider myself a global citizen and I enjoy diversity of all sorts as I believe it enriches my life and broadens my worldview. I therefore enjoy meeting people from all walks of life, from the corners of the world.

Before I moved to South Africa I worked in London in the UK for ten years as a qualified child protection social worker. I supported children, adults and families engaging in or being affected by abuse, misuse, illness and other life changing events. I spent a lot of time meeting and counselling clients in the community, facilitating contact between separated family members and undertaking court work.

In South Africa I practice as a Specialist Wellness Counsellor, online and in-person, with both national and international clients. I also volunteer, helping to run an educational project in a near-by township and deliver workshops for adults how to best protect their young children from sexual abuse.

I believe that everyone has an ability to learn to accept, manage and improve their holistic wellbeing if the emotional load can be shared and processed in an environment free of judgement.

Qualifications: BSc in International and Intercultural Social Work, MidSweden University (2005), Honors Degree in Children and Families Social Work, Royal Holloway University of London (2011), postgraduation studies in Social Work (Uni. of Umea, 2021) and Psychology (Uni. of Gothenburg, 2023). Certified Specialist Wellness Counsellor with the South African professional body ASCHP.
